A vast amount of research lies behind AA activity, whether it is helping members at the roadside or looking after their interests as motorists.
Much of AA Technical Services’ research is dedicated to improving the effectiveness of patrols at the roadside, not least helping to make sure that they have access to the most up-to-date information and equipment to deal with members’ breakdowns.
Roadside security and safety are also priorities.

Road safety has been a corp AA activity in Ireland since 1910. We contribute to road safety debates at all levels and lobby for a proactive approach to road safety issues. 

The AA has called for a dedicated Garda Traffic core as part of an active preventative policing policy and has recently produced a video on Drink Driving aimed at younger drivers which was broadcast on RTE television.

The AA’s Public Policy department underpins its work on behalf of members with authoritative research and support from technical, legal and medical experts. It is used to respond to government and EU proposals for new legislation, to brief parliamentarians and to respond to the media. 
Research is focused on promoting responsible motoring, improving road safety and emphasising the essential role of the car in everyday life.
