Speed Limits

The measurement of speed limits on Irish roads has changed from miles per hour (mph) to kilometres per hour.

Road System in Ireland
  • In towns and cities the speed limit is 50km/h (31mph)
  • Regional ( R ) and Local (L) roads, the speed limit is 80km/h (50mph) – white signs
  • National roads, the speed limit is 100km/h (62mph) - Green signs
  • Motorways, the speed limit is 120km/h (74mph) – Blue signs
