Accident - What To Do

Note the following details:

  • Name and address of the other driver and the vehicle owner, if different
  • Name and address of each witness
  • Description of any injury to yourself or others
  • Damage to vehicles and other property
  • Name and address of the other driver’s insurance company (See insurance disc on windscreen)
  • Number of certificate of insurance (See insurance disc on windscreen)
  • Registration number of other vehicle
  • Name or Number of any Garda at the scene
  • Name of any AA patrol attending
  • Date, time and location of accident
  • Speed of vehicles involved
  • Width of road, road markings, state of road surface, weather conditions, visibility, time of day
  • Debris or marks on the road relevant to the accident
  • Manner of other driver’s driving
  • Rough sketch of vehicle positions before and after the accident
  • Whether other driver and passengers were wearing seatbelts
  • Take photographs of the scene if you have a camera
1.Stop
2.Keep your vehicle at or near the scene of the accident for a reasonable period 
3.Give, on demand, your name, address and that of the vehicle owner (if different), the vehicle number and particulars of insurance
4.If anyone is injured, or if neither a member of the Garda Siochana nor anyone entitled to demand such information is present (or is in a condition to ask) you must report the incident as soon as possible to a member of the Garda Siochana
