A few things to remember:

1. Control your speed

Observe speed limits. Adjust your speed to the situation.
Never drive so fast that you cannot stop within the distance you can see to be clear.

2. Be alert

Anticipate events ahead. You should be looking 100 metres or more beyond your car at all times to be fully aware of the traffic movement ahead of you, but also observe the traffic close to you.

3. Stay back

Do not follow the vehicle in front by less than one vehicle length at any time, with a minimum separation of a two-second gap (about 100 metres).

Greener Motoring

Map out your journey in advance. Every extra mile uses more fuel and adds to the journey time. Service your car on a regular basis. This helps to minimise fuel consumption and limit emission of pollutants.

Consider alternative forms of transport. For some journeys it may be possible to cycle, or walk, or use a train or bus. Think how you can minimise the consumption of fuel.
Drive smoothly and avoid heavy accelerating or braking. This will save fuel overall.
